Local Libraries: Global Awareness

A Librarian's Guide to
Global Programming for a Sustainable Future

This guide was developed in a partnership project with the American Library Association with support from the U.S. Agency for International Development. The guide is being included as an insert in the June/July 1998 issue of ALA's monthly membership magazine, American Libraries, which is mailed to ALA's 57,000 members.

Working with a team of public and school librarians, we've also developed supplemental resources that will be available on both organizations' web sites and in hard copy from ALA's International Relations Office.

On June 25, 1998, we will be conducting a Pre-conference at ALA's Annual Conference in Washington, DC. Entitled Crossing Cultures, Boundaries, and Borders: Global Programming for Local Libraries, this full day Pre-conference will feature demonstrations of the guide and supplemental resources, nationally renown speakers, and a participatory cross-cultural simulation. Since there are still some spaces available, interested persons can contact us for more information.
