Adult Responses
In the workshop, the thing I found most valuable was...
- the positive ways to solve conflicts among students.
- the tools & skills were clearly outlined.
- the role playing -- hands-on mediating and facilitating were very good.
- the active participation in the groups. The chance to experience each role.
- the positive debriefings, the leaders' attention to details and specific points.
- learning that we have options to resolve conflict rather than using suspension as a
threat or means of control.
Student responses
- I learned how to keep my temper calm and help solve problems.
- As a mediator, you have to pay attention and have patience.
- I learned how to help disputants get a solution acceptable to both.
- I now really feel like I have some personal control of myself in situations.
A Guidance Counselor
- We are very pleased by the way our student mediators are handling the disputes that come
to them. Most all of them are resolved and seem to stay resolved. I have to admit it is
working well beyond our expectations.
