What’s next after you’ve involved students in energy conservation activities like an energy audit of the school?

  • The national Alliance to Save Energy, a member of the NJ Sustainable Schools Network, has assembled a Green Schools Tool Kit of professional energy monitoring instruments for students to use for inquiry learning.  Workshop participants will receive sample lessons & will be able to borrow the Tool Kit after completing the workshop.

  • Philips Lighting technical staff, utilizing their Lighting Lab, will demonstrate connections between the science of light, renewable energy and energy conservation practices.
  • Increase student motivation for saving energy and using alternative energy.  Students can view themselves as part of the solution to the problem of global warming as they calculate their school’s greenhouse gas emissions and help our State meet its goal of 3.5% ghg reductions by 2005 thru energy saving strategies.

Participatory Workshops will include:

Hands on the Green Schools Tool Kit –Janet Castellini, President, Castle Education, Inc., lead educational consultant for the Alliance to Save Energy’s Green Schools Program 

The Science of Light, Renewable Energy & Energy Conservation –Paul Walitsky, Manager, Environmental Affairs, Steve McGuire, Environmental Project Coordinator, Philips Lighting

Students in the Solution to Global Warming –Jeff Brown, Executive Director, Global Learning 

This workshop is free, but a returnable $15 reservation charge is required to hold your place (payable to Global Learning, Inc.).  This fee will be returned to registrants at the workshop, or if notice of cancellation is received by noon of Monday, March 24th.

Travel directions to Philips Lighting will be sent with workshop confirmation.
